Hoshi no Buranko
Osaka is more than just a concrete jungle; places like Hoshi No Buranko (the swing in the stars) are a testament to its beauty. The ‘swing’ is a huge suspension bridge that lets you walk at tree top level, feeling like you are in the air, surrounded by nature.
The Path to the Suspension Bridge
Photo by: PIXTA/ ojosAt a height of 50 meters above ground and spanning approximately 300 meters, the bridge overlooks one of the most natural areas in Kansai: Hoshida Park. Although the route to the bridge is well-trodden, the area is a lot more natural than some of the other suspension bridges in Japan. Expect plenty of steps, occasional bug swarms, and sightings of elusive wildlife, including snakes and hornets, depending on the season.
Because of its elevation, you should prepare before heading there. The walk is about 4 km and requires moderate fitness.
Adventure on the Trail
Photo by: PIXTA/ kazukiatukoThe path to Hoshi No Buranko starts in a forest with a stream running beside it. Expect to see many families enjoying picnics here. Then gradually gets steeper as you tread the well-signposted route up.
About halfway up the path is an open area that hosts a climbing wall. Even if you don’t have the energy to climb, it is a good place to take a rest. For those who want the full experience, expect to pay ¥3,000 to climb.
After the climbing wall, the tree cover becomes denser and the path splits in two: one leading off to the route called the Bouken No Michi and the other continuing on. As bouken-no-michi translates as the ‘path of adventure’, it is the tougher of the two: think a sweaty climb up stairs. Take the regular path for a light stroll.
Selfie Spots at the Top

The first thing that hits you as you proceed onto the bridge itself is the view. As well as the trees around you, you can see a lot of Kansai. Depending on the visibility, you can see as far as Suita City with its famous Tower of the Sun.
Ultimately, Hoshi No Buranko is an opportunity to experience nature a little differently. Instead of looking up at the trees, you get to look down at them and feel like you are flying in the stars.
