Ryusenji No Yu is known as one of Aichi Prefecture’s most popular chain super sento (public bath). The spa opened in 1990 and was Japan’s first large-capacity “super” sento, combining bath and sauna (hot rock bath) facilities. In 2018, it was closed for renovation for six months, and the spa became 1.5 times as large as previously. Another unique feature is that it has Aichi’s largest carbonated spring bath. It was added in the year 2000 when this new style of public bath became popular.

The facility is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m., and there is even an option to sleep overnight. Even on weekdays, the spa is packed with customers. The spa has branches in Toyota, Sendai, Chigasaki, Yokohama, Hachioji, Soka and Nagareyama City. However, its main branch is in Nagoya, the chain’s largest facility.

Ryusenji No Yu has several hot rock “baths,” which are rooms with floors lined with hot rocks that visitors lay on. The rooms function as saunas, with each set at a different temperature. The hottest room is sweat-lodge-styled, which gets as hot as 90°C. There is even a women-only hot rock bath room. Cool-down rooms are also available, which feature aroma therapy as well. If you prefer to cool down with some fresh air, there is also an outside lounge area attached to the hot rock bath section of the facility.

A chic new lounging area was created in the hot rock bath area after the 2018 renovation. This large open area has countless comfy chairs, sofas, and tables where you can relax. There are also massage chairs, rooms with televisions and floor areas with pillows to lay on. You can also choose from over 10,000 books and manga available in this area and have a relaxing read. A shop where you can buy drinks and ice cream was also created. The facility now also has a kids’ area where you can lay down on tatami mats and read children’s books.

Another new feature is a separate area to sleep overnight in. For an extra fee, you can sleep in an area called Premium Lodge The Maison, which has mini rooms with beds. There is a women-only part of this area as well. Ryusenji no yu also has a restaurant where you can have a variety of different food. Professional massages are also available.

In addition, in late 2024, the facility temporarily closed for yet another renovation. Improvements include a bath with water below 10°C, mud packs in the women’s sauna area, a “bazooka”-style loyal sauna, and a number of other new features.
