Shukugawa Cherry Blossom Festival
Come and see the cherry blossoms along Shukugawa River, one of Japan’s “100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots.”

Shukugawa Park is home to over 1,700 cherry trees that create a stunning sakura (cherry blossom) canopy along the riverbanks. These trees were first planted over 70 years ago to enhance the natural beauty of the area. Today, the Shukugawa Cherry Blossom Festival draws visitors to admire the breathtaking Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, which bloom in early April. The trees form a dreamy pink corridor and the clear waters of the Shukugawa River beautifully reflect the blossoms.
Recognized as one of the “100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan,” Shukugawa Park is a must-visit hanami (flower viewing) spot. Its wide, accessible pathways and open spaces make it ideal for visitors, while nearby playgrounds provide entertainment for children. The park is also easily reachable, with just a short walk from Shukugawa, Kurakuenguchi and Koroen stations.

The Shukugawa Cherry Blossom Festival offers a unique setting for cherry blossom viewing, blending the beauty of cherry blossoms with the tranquility of nearby pine trees along the river. While the park can get crowded due to its popularity, it remains a peaceful place to stroll along the riverbanks and enjoy the scenery. It is especially popular with families, as the surrounding playgrounds and parks provide plenty of space for children to play.

Unlike larger hanami spots like Osaka Castle Park or Kyoto’s Maruyama Park, Shukugawa offers a quieter, more natural environment. The festival has fewer food stalls to place a stronger emphasis on appreciating the blossoms in a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors are encouraged to take leisurely walks along the riverside or enjoy a picnic under the trees. However, large gatherings and parties are discouraged due to limited space. Because of its proximity to residential areas, the festival restricts the number of food stalls and prohibits barbecues.
From sunset until 9 p.m., the cherry blossoms are illuminated along the river. This special light-up event creates a magical nighttime atmosphere.
